I know that by and far, most of us are careful drivers who follow the law to the letter. Getting a speeding ticket is unheard of, and we wouldn’t think twice about running a red light! I think this is why we love to watch cars go as fast as they can on the silver screen. I was watching Cars with my son this weekend, and this Disney animated film has more exciting race scenes than most real-life NASCAR races! I started thinking about how many movies there are that are all about fast cars, and even faster races. I went through my DVD list and I was surprised at the number of movies we have in the house that are all about fast cars and fast driving. Here are the best movies about quick cars in my collection:
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
If you’re not first, you’re last! This is one of Will Ferrel’s most hilarious films to date. In it he plays a NASCAR driver who loses it all after an accident on the track, but learns more important things about his family, his life, and delivering pizza. Many of the race scenes are filmed at the Talladega Super Speedway in Alabama. With Sacha Baron Cohen playing the Formula One driver that challenges Ferrel’s character, Ricky Bobby, to the hilarious final race, this movie is podium worthy for sure!
There’s not a Mustang owner alive who doesn’t own at least two copies of this Steve McQueen. The legendary car chase through the streets of San Francisco set the gold standard in how to do a chase scene right. If you’ve been to the San Francisco Bay Area, you’ll recognize right away what a masterful feat that chase scene truly was!
Smokey and The Bandit
I’ve watched this film so many times that my son groans when I turn it on and goes upstairs to do a puzzle, rather than watch Burt Reynolds go ripping across the state line! Which is actually a good thing, because even for 1977 the language can be a bit salty, but the Trans Am Bandit drives is fast enough to make up for it.
These are just three of the films I have, off the top of my head, but there’s plenty more in my movie queue. Even if you’re a good, law-abiding driver, it’s still fun to watch fast cars. What’s even more fun is when you’re behind the wheel of a car you KNOW can go fast! If you haven’t driven a 2015 Dodge Challenger, I strongly suggest you head down to Thornton Road CDJR for a test drive. With 305 HP and up to 707 HP available, you’ll feel ready for the track!
