Baseball season has gone by quick. One blink, and we’re already at halfway mark of the 2015 season with plenty of teams in contention, including your very own Atlanta Braves.
There’s good news and bad news: The bad news is, the Braves are five games under .500, with a 42-47 record and their days of a juggernaut appearing over. The good news, though, is the Braves are only seven games back of the first-place Washington Nationals with plenty of baseball to be played.
The National League East hasn’t been the most stellar of divisions this year. Even the Nationals are only 48-39 and are trying to fend off the New York Mets, who are two games back with a record of 47-42. But there’s plenty of time for the Braves to make a charge for first place.
With the All-Star break over, it’s time to get back to meaningful baseball. Here are the five Atlanta Braves games to see with two months left in the regular season:
July 17 – Chicago Cubs
Not a bad matchup to watch after the break. The Cubs are fighting for one of the two wildcard spots and have put themselves in a prime position for a promising future. But for now, it’s a huge first game of a three-game series, especially with the Braves creeping up on the Cubs for said wildcard spot. First pitch is slotted for 7:35 P.M.
July 22 – Los Angeles Dodgers
Who doesn’t like afternoon baseball? First pitch is set for 12:35 P.M. in a matchup against the first-place Dodgers. If all goes according to plan, Dodgers star Clayton Kershaw should be pitching this game, but fortunately for the Braves, Kershaw hasn’t looked that great this year. Could be a good matchup for Atlanta here.
August 3 – San Francisco Giants
A three-game homestand against the defending World Series champions sounds like a good way to start a Monday. The Giants usually play their best baseball after the All-Star break, but they’re on the outside looking in of the playoff picture. Still, you can’t count out San Francisco.
August 30 – New York Yankees
You probably know a few Yankee fans in your inner circle. Make it an outing none of you will forget. As the calendar turns to September, this should be a big game for both teams. The Yankees are playing good baseball this year, and it’s bound to be an exciting game, with first pitch scheduled at 1:35 P.M.
September 30 – Washington Nationals
How fitting would this be if this game were for the National League East championship? If Atlanta has a strong second half to the season, this could very well be the case. This is the season finale, so it’s only fitting that Bryce Harper and the Nats are in town.
Baseball season is heating up, and it’s only fitting that you make it to Turner Field safely and in style.
